How to Build a Simple Skincare Routine

You don't need 12 steps to have glowing skin. Here's how to build a simple, effective skincare routine that actually works for the Ghanaian climate.
Great skin doesn't happen by accident — it's the result of consistent care with the right products. But "right" doesn't mean expensive or complicated. Here's a simple routine that works.
Morning Routine
- Cleanser — Use a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser to remove overnight sweat and oils without stripping your skin barrier.
- Vitamin C Serum — Brighten, even skin tone, and protect against free radicals. Apply 2–3 drops and press into skin.
- Moisturiser — Even oily skin needs moisture. Choose a lightweight, non-comedogenic formula.
- SPF 30+ — This is non-negotiable in Ghana's climate. Sun damage is the number one cause of premature ageing.
Evening Routine
- Double Cleanse — Start with a cleansing oil or micellar water to remove makeup and sunscreen, then follow with your regular cleanser.
- Exfoliant (2–3x per week) — A gentle AHA (like glycolic acid) removes dead skin cells and unclogs pores. Don't over-exfoliate.
- Treatment Serum — Target your concern: niacinamide for hyperpigmentation, retinol for ageing, hyaluronic acid for hydration.
- Moisturiser / Night Cream — A slightly richer cream at night supports the skin's natural repair cycle.
Key Ingredients to Look For
- Niacinamide — reduces dark spots and large pores
- Hyaluronic acid — deep hydration
- Vitamin C — brightening and antioxidant protection
- Retinol — anti-ageing (use at night, start slowly)
- Shea butter — deep moisture, great for dry skin
